Do Christian schools have waiting lists, and how do they work?
Programmes, amounts and rules change. Before acting on anything here, check the current details with the official source named in the answer.
Many do, especially for popular grades. As typical practice, a waiting list starts when a grade fills. The school keeps taking applications or expressions of interest for that grade, and if an enrolled family withdraws, the place is offered to a family on the list. Entry grades tend to fill first, which in practice often means kindergarten and the first year of high school, although the pressured grades at your local school may be different.
Lists usually run by grade, not for the school as a whole, so being near the front for one grade does not help with another. How a school orders its list is its own policy. Some work mainly in application order, some give priority to groups the school names in its policy, such as siblings of current pupils or families already in its preschool, and some ask families to complete the full application, including any assessment or meeting, before joining the list at all. Schools also differ on timing. Some open a waiting list on a set date after the priority application window closes, and some close or restart their lists at the end of a school year rather than carrying them forward.
If you join a list, ask three questions in writing: what position you hold or how offers are ordered, whether the list carries into next year or you must reapply, and how long you would have to accept a place if one is offered, because that window can be short. Stay in polite contact, keep your phone and email current with the office, and keep a second choice moving in parallel. A waiting list place is a real chance, but it is never a promise of a seat.
