What questions should I ask on a Christian school tour?

Programmes, amounts and rules change. Before acting on anything here, check the current details with the official source named in the answer.

Go with a short list and ask the same questions at every school, so you can compare the answers fairly afterwards. Start with faith life. Ask how Bible teaching and chapel fit into the week, what the school's statement of faith asks of families and teachers, how teachers handle questions or disagreement about faith in class, and what part church life plays, if any, in admissions or school life.

Ask about academics and the school day. Ask what curriculum the school uses in your child's grade, how large classes are, how teachers check that children are keeping up, what happens when a child falls behind or races ahead, and how much homework families should expect. Ask about discipline and safety too. Ask how behaviour is handled, how bullying is dealt with, who supervises break times, and how the school secures the building during the day.

Ask about cost, support and communication before you leave. Ask for the full cost, including fees, uniforms, books and trips, and what aid, discounts and payment plans the school offers. Ask what learning support the school can and cannot provide, how teachers keep parents informed, and how you would raise a concern. Finally, watch as well as ask. Notice how staff speak to children, whether classrooms feel calm and purposeful, and whether your child could picture themselves there.
